Smoking robs more than five million years of lifespan because of premature death. Cigarette smoking accounts for the majority of lung cancer cases. So, why do people still smoke cigarettes?

Light Smokers Are At Risk

A recent Norwegian study revealed that light smokers are not exempted from smoking related diseases. Kjell Bjartveit, a member of the research team found that smoking of 1-4 cigarettes per day can multiply the risk of death. This applied to ischemic heart diseases and lung cancer among women.

Smoking Parents Make Child Ill

Children of smoking parents have a higher risk of developing lung cancer by 70 percent. According to a new study in Germany, passive smoking during childhood increases the risk for nasal cancer. In addition children of smoking mothers develop bladder, nasal, lung, upper aerodigestive, and kidney cancer more frequently. This may be because of breast feeding and in utero exposure to tobacco smoking. However, children of smoking fathers only show increased incidence of lung cancer.
