Medication To Quit Smoking: List Of 6 Approved Drugs By The FDA Part 2

September 1st, 2007 · No Comments

CHANTIX

This prescribed drug came into market last year. It is the latest drug approved by the FDA so far. It contains an active ingredient known as varenicline tartrate. The medication works by blocking the nicotine receptors in your brain. This reduces the pleasure effects of nicotine. Therefore, when you stop smoking, the receptors in your brain cannot experience any stimulation as before when you were smoking. This will help you to crave lesser for cigarettes.

Chantix also reduces the effects from the withdrawal symptoms through stimulation of production of low levels of dopamine in your brain. The brain discharges dopamine when the nicotine from your cigarette triggers the receptors in your brain. It is responsible for the pleasure feeling you experience when you smoke.

Some of the common side effects when you use Chantix include nausea, vomiting, insomnia, headache, weird dreams, dysgeusia (sense of taste disorder), and flatulence. The course of treatment usually takes about 12 weeks to finish.
