As you begin to be more involved in the support group, you can further benefit from the quit smoking support if you follow other supporting suggestions. Let’s continue with the remaining part of this topic.

  • Stay healthy. Remember that you want to quit smoking, not quitting on your life. You need to take care of your health to overcome the withdrawal symptoms. During the first week, you may feel tired and exhausted. So, make sure you eat healthily and rest enough. Drink plenty of fluids and exercise every day. Water helps to remove toxins from your body and replace water that is lost during workout. Take supplements to boost your energy level and replenish the vitamins that you destroy during the time you smoke.
  • Stay away from alcohol. Usually places that serve alcoholic drinks are packed with smokers. You may think it is fine to drink a glass or two. However, it may tempt you to light a cigarette. Places like these are not helping you to quit smoking.
  • Avoid stress. Stress can trigger your smoking desire. The first sign of withdrawal is tension. So, try to relax by taking a deep breath and keep your mind focused on your goal. You need to evaluate how to deal with stress everyday. Do something that can release you from stress such as exercise, sports, and reading.
  • Don’t treat quitting smoking as a serious task as it may lead to stress. It can become burdensome when you attend the quit smoking support group. Take time to enjoy what life has to offer. Keep the bad thoughts away. Stay positive. Any failure in an attempt to stop smoking may cause anxiety. Accept it as a part of life. Instead of being gloomy, treat yourself!
  • Forget the idea that you could have just one cigarette a day. Remember, smoking habit begins with one stick a day. If you are thinking of smoking only one a day, you are going back to square one. This gives more reason to participate in a support group because you want to stop smoking.

Quitting smoking is a process, and not a destination. Support group alone will not help you to stop completely. You need determination and courage to get rid of smoking habit.
