Should You Be Concerned About Second Hand Smoke?

November 7th, 2006 · No Comments

Cigarette SmokeSome people have severe allergic disorders. Exposure to second hand or passive smoke can be life-threatening for them.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified second hand smoke as a Class A carcinogen. Second hand smoke can pose health hazards to everyone. The most affected group are children, infants and the unborn foetus. Infants who are exposed to second hand smoke encounter higher incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) as compared to infants who are free from tobacco smoke.

Infants and children are not spared at all from middle ear infections, pneumonia, asthma, and bronchitis when they are exposed to passive smoke for a long period.

So, the next time you want to smoke, look around you. Are there any babies or children? Do you want to harm them with your cigarette smoke? Don’t be selfish.
