Can Liquid Nicotine Cigarette Help You To Quit Smoking?

November 6th, 2006 · 14 Comments

I read a headline today “Liquid Nicotine Cigarette Being Studied In Milwaukee.”

The study will validate the effectiveness of liquid nicotine cigarette in combating the desire to smoke. This new smoking cessation gadget (known as Smoke-Break) supposedly allows smokers to receive lower dosages of nicotine as compared to cigarettes. At the same time, it mimics the act of habitual smoking.

Look at the comparison below on the amount of nicotine you receive from smoke-break, cigarette and nicotine gum

Smoke-Break 1.5mg
Cigarette 2mg
Nicotine gum 2mg or 4mg

I have some reservations on this new product.

Firstly, how can Smoke-Break break the physical habit of smoking if the act of lighting up continues? Physical habits are hard to break. With Smoke-Break, you tend to put that “safe” cigarette in your mouth the moment your brain desires for a smoke. A habit is a habit. To quit smoking completely, you have to get rid of the physical act of smoking which you’ve developed over the years. For example, most smokers automatically reach out for cigarettes after meals or during drinking sessions. I can’t see how Smoke-Break can help smokers change their habits.

Lastly, it looks like it works the same way as nicotine gum. So, what’s so new about it? It’s just a product differentiation with the intent of making more money.

    Hi Rob

If I come across such report, I will publish it.

Hi Rob. I’m the guy who invented Smoke-Break to quit smoking. I disagree with your assumption. There is no “lighting up” here. Yes, we attempt to duplicate the act of smoking. Yes we deliver nicotine just like the nicotine gum… but last time I checked, I didn’t chew my cigarettes (when I smoked). I brought my hand to my mouth, and inhaled. That’s how I got my “fix” of nicotine.

What the liquid cigarette does is a temporary habit– without the lethal smoke. You’ve likely not smoked much. Think of it as a parachute. By duplicating the smoking experience, I was able to, more easily, transfer to the world of never smoking again.

    Cheers

    Brett

Oops, I didn’t mean ROB. I was addressing my comments to the original blogger who didn’t understand the liquid cigarette. His name was “cranus” (C-R-anus, lol). My bad.

    Brett,

I think you’ve got a great product here. If I still smoked I would give it a try. Is it going to be approved by the FDA? When will it be available?

My name is Tony and I am study group participant #1 in Smoke Break’s initial testing. I began using Smoke Break on January 1 and have not had a cigarette since, nor will I ever have one again.

I entered into this program having little optimism but a desire to give it a try, what the heck, the product was free. I had smoked 2 packs a day for nearly 30 years and failed on two previous attempts to quit smoking. The first few weeks, I used almost as many as I smoked cigs but am now down to one or two a day. I may use a couple more if I am drinking in a bar where there are other smokers, but do not feel at all dependent on the product. They are there if I need them or have a strong craving, but I am now and will remain smoke free.

This product has added so much value to my life, it cannot be stated. This is the most unbelievable smoke cesation product ever created and god willing, every smoker that wants to stop will have it made available to them very soon.

Should have also mentioned that I gave some of my product to my mother who had smoked for 50 years and she is now 6 weeks smoke free with the help of smoke break. She also would swear to the unbelievable results of Smoke Break.

Thanks Chad. Regarding the FDA, your guess is as good as mine. It’s taken almost a year & a half to get FDA approval for a Phase I clinical trial. They’ve been helpful, but these things take waaay too long. Once the clinical trial begins (within the next two months), and the results come in– say, our 30-day quit rates– things will heat up. We already know that our 30-day quit rates will be in the 75-80% range, something the gum and patch can only dream of. That’s when the fun begins.

    Congrats on quitting, btw.

    Hi Tony

Thanks for your input. I hope Brett can share more stats here on how successful Smoke Break is. Maybe either you or Brett can highlight any unfavorable results seen in study group. Sometimes people needs to be made aware of the negative impacts beside the plus points of the product.

    Hi Brett

I don’t mean to belittle your product. Well, one can be very frustated when attempting to quit with so many stop smoking products in the market.

If your product really helps people to quit smoking, I don’t mind blogging about it.

Let’s wait for the result of the clinical trial in the next few months.

    Thanks again for your comment.

There is approximately 1 gram of carbohydrates in 2 devices, this can make the induction process of a low carb diet difficult.

Beyond this: They are the single most greatest thing ever created for smoke cessation and will take the market by storm.

    Day 76 of non-smoking…

I can’t wait to try Smokebreak, I have the problem of wanting to hold a cigarette and this definitely sounds like a good substitute. I haven’t smoked in almost 2 months now and would like to keep it up. I went to the site for Smokebreak, but it is not working right. Oh well, this is a good idea .

I can’t wait for smoke-break to come on the market for sale. This sounds like the perfect product to simulate smoking, while getting away from the real trauma of smoking. I tried to contact them on their website, but there is no way to contact them right now. This is going to be a great product we really need.

    Hi Kristen

I haven’t heard any news from Brett. If I hear anything on Smoke Break, I will post it here.

  • Brett // Jul 12, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Thanks Chris & Kristen. Kind words like that keep me going. It’s been an impossibly long road. I quit smoking over 2 1/2 years ago with this invention, and we haven’t even been able to start a clinical study yet. I’ll post something when there’s news, assuming we don’t all die of old age by then…..
