If you’ve tried to quit smoking before, you know that kicking this addiction takes time. The Food and Drug Administration approves five nicotine-based replacement medications to help you quit smoking. Nicotine replacement products smoothen your transition to being a non smoker.
They come in the form of patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler, and nasal spray. Only nicotine inhalers and nasal sprays require a doctor’s prescription. Some brands of nicotine patch are also available by prescription.
Whichever product you use does not matter. In most cases, they all perform almost equally effective. Just choose according to your preference.
Studies show that even if the nicotine replacement treatment fails to help you stop smoking, it at least helps in cutting down your smoking.
To make nicotine replacement therapy more effective, join a counseling group or attend hypnotherapy sessions. Check with your doctor before using nicotine replacement products.
